On Tuesday, January 12, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, just 15km from the capital. Reaching a
magnitude of 7.0, this is the worst earthquake Haiti has experienced in 200 years. While the death toll
is still unclear, Over 150,000 bodies have already been recovered and thousands more are still feared
to be dead. Another three million are affected as schools, homes and hospitals have collapsed.
Haiti is one of the world’s poorest countries, meaning that vital services like electricity and water are
now almost completely inaccessible in the wake of the destruction. At this moment, the people of
Haiti need our support more than ever.
MMIF was made aware early on that our church and school on the outskirts of Port Au Prince have
been destroyed. Armed with this knowledge we urge you to take action and help us reestablish or
ministry presence in this country that has experienced such agony. Let us once again raise a voice of
deliverance and hope from the ash heap of despair. Let the worship rise again from the house of our
God. Let our children once again receive instruction in a safe and secure place where the name of the
Lord is exalted.
Drawing on our past experience of building schools and houses of worship in various impoverished
areas around the world, let us place the resources in the hands of our in-country associates to
reestablish our work and ministry in this area. We are in close contact with local organizations able to
provide quick and effective relief. This is a place close to our heart. There are mouths to be fed,
People to be clothed, sick and injured to be cared for, and vast reconstruction to be undertaken. Jesus
said "When you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me." Act now and help us
help those who need it most.
